Design Focus
Clarify navigation issues, enhanced UI guide. Clearly and quickly sort user based on sport or media subject.
CX Integration
Social stories with links created to gamify the content browsing experience. Prompted apps: Spotify, Strava, Instagram
User-focused Motivation
“Outside puts out some rad content, but their website is abysmal. I get overwhelmed every time I’m on it, so if I’m actually watching something they put out, it’s usually because someone sent me the direct link“
Tools Used:
Trello, Miro, Figma, Invision
Affinity Diagram
Navigation and Pain points were a big focus for our redesign. Since so many of our initial users bailed out of their tests, we knew that we needed to make finding what they wanted to see a quicker and more painless experience
Insights and Statements
Initially, we thought we might focus on dividing the content according to Trip Inspiration or Training Tips, though as we continued to User Research, test and iterate, we decided to focus on the local and real time feature option (which we made up) and have the trip and training be an incentive to create a local/campfire account
Information Architecture
Information Architecture was the highest priority for our group as that was one of the main issues found during interviews and discussions. We started by defining our site hierarchy, then moved into the Local Beta of ‘Why’ a user would use OutsideTV, the social aspect of the site using channels for creator interaction and then the unique series that outside tv offers.
Data makes it count
Example tasks: “find the Outside Campfire section” and “navigate to Snow” and “find the Outside TV Series shows”. During the old site testing, 4 out of 5 users failed these simple tasks. During final testing, not only did every user complete the tasks, but they also did so with almost zero mis-clicks or home-clicks. We have recorded Zoom tests if anyone wants to see.
What now?
How can combining passive enjoyment of outdoor video and information for active outdoor activities /allow/ users to feel safe and confident combining their on and off screen adventure interests ?
